We Need to Talk about Brilliance Hording

Have you ever noticed yourself keeping your best ideas, your unique tools, and your lived experiences locked away inside? Have you ever said you’d love to speak, you’d love to share, you’d love to put yourself out there, but then those pesky "yeah, buts" show up?

Yeah, but who am I to stand up there amongst experts?
Yeah, but what if what I share isn’t new or unique?
Yeah, but I’m so far from a polished speaker.

We focus so much on those worries because we think we have to prove ourselves. We think we have to be the absolute, undisputed authority in the room before we are allowed to take up space. But when we wait for that flawless, polished version of ourselves, we are actually hoarding our brilliance, hiding it away in the dark because it feels safe.

But I’ve come to see it very differently. The wisdom, the insights, and the unique combination of experiences you possess weren’t given to you just for your own safekeeping. They were entrusted to you by the Universe.

Think about that for a second. You are the specific vessel designed to deliver a specific message.

Nobody else has your exact history, your exact perspective, or your exact heart. So when you look at a stage or an opportunity to speak and you say, "Yeah, but I'm not ready," you aren't just protecting yourself from discomfort. You are holding back something that doesn't actually belong to you. Which means sharing your brilliance isn't just a business strategy; it is a profound responsibility.

When you look at it through that lens, the pressure to be a smooth, flawless presenter completely disappears. You don't have to walk into a room carrying the weight of having to know everything. (In fact, a while back I wrote a blog post about exactly how to leave that overactive inner critic backstage).

Instead, you get to show up as a human being who has been handed a beautiful, necessary gift, simply doing your job to pass it across the table to the people who are out there waiting for it.

Stop Hoarding Your Brilliance: How to Attract Clients Through Speaking

I talked about brilliance hoarding recently on the podcast with my guest, Leisa Reid, who helps entrepreneurs move past what she calls "speaker's kryptonite." We dug into how easy it is to fall into comparisitis, and how we discount our own assignments the second we look at someone else's highlight reel.

Here’s the bottom line: The Universe didn't make a mistake when it handed this unique message to you and bestowed you with the gifts necessary to share it.

And the people sitting out there in those seats aren't looking for a perfectly polished, flawless presentation of something they’ve never heard before. They are just looking for a real human being, who gets it and can help them see a little clearer. They are looking for you.

So stop leaving your best stuff packed away in the dark. Dust off your ideas, take your rightful seat at the table, and let those beautiful, positive ripples fly. The world has been waiting for exactly what you were born to bring!

Warmly,

Linda
