4 Steps for Making Shift Happen – Step 2

One of the main things I hear when I talk with my clients about making shift happen in their lives is that they don’t know exactly where they want to land.

You, too, may be fuzzy and unclear on what you want your life to look like. And when you don’t know where you’re going, you don’t know which way to go, so, it seems safest to stay right where you are. And this is what keeps you feeling stagnant in your life – even though you may feel the pull of something on the horizon.

The number one reason people are unclear on their destination is because big shifts entail a metamorphosis; a change within that results in a new you. And a caterpillar simply cannot dream like a butterfly. The caterpillar, while intimately familiar with leaves and bark, cannot possibly fathom what it might be like to float effortlessly above a field of wildflowers gently swaying to the music of the breeze.

Like that caterpillar, you might not have a clear picture of what life on the other side of big change may look like. But there ARE things you CAN do to move from fuzziness to clarity of where you’re heading.

One of my favorite tools I use with my clients who are hungry for clarity is CONTRAST. And it goes like this: First, make a list of what you are no longer willing to settle for. Then, for each of the items on that list, use contrast to identify what you’d love, instead.

For example, an item on your first list might be, “I am no longer willing to settle for a life void of adventure and meaning.” The contrasting statement would then be, “I’d love a rich, full life.”

So, there you go! Give it a try. I’d love to know what you come up with! So, email me back with what you’d love your life to be like.
